AS Saint-Etienne (ASSE) is preparing for a crucial trip to Rodez this Saturday evening, as part of the 33rd matchday of Ligue 2. The Saint-Etienne coach, Philippe Montanier, has confirmed two important absences that will weaken his squad for this pivotal encounter. After a heavy home defeat against Troyes (0-3), the "Verts" (Greens) absolutely must win against the Rodez club if they want to revive their chances of promotion to Ligue 1, with second place currently occupied by Le Mans.
In a press conference, Philippe Montanier emphasized the urgency of the situation: "We must win, we have no alternatives. Over the next two matches, we must work as a team defensively and offensively, be effective in both boxes, and have self-control. We will have to tick several boxes, technically, athletically, tactically, and mentally." The coach highlights the need for a collective performance and renewed efficiency for this trip to Rodez.
Physically, ASSE will be without Zuriko Davitashvili. The Georgian midfielder is out for this weekend due to an ankle sprain. Philippe Montanier, however, specified that the evolution of his injury was positive: "But we will see the progress afterwards because as of this morning, he was already feeling better." His absence will be a blow to the Saint-Etienne attack against Rodez.
Another player will be missing for the rest of the season: Chico Lamba. The defender is suffering from a stress fracture, bringing a premature end to his campaign. Regarding Julien Le Cardinal, who has resumed individual training, his participation against Rodez remains uncertain. The coach indicated that he would be tested, but no risks would be taken.
Finally, Aïmen Moueffek, who suffered a heavy blow to the calf, caused a scare among the staff. While concern was high, his condition has improved: "it's better. We will also see about him tomorrow." The physical situation of the Saint-Etienne squad is therefore mixed before facing Rodez, a match that promises to be decisive for ASSE's ambitions in Ligue 2.
