Physical trainer Didier Santini shared his concerns with Centre Presse Aveyron this week, describing catastrophically poor pitches that threaten player safety.
The Ruthénois club, on seven points from four games, prepares to face FC Metz this Friday, September 5th. Why are the Vabre training pitches problematic?
Didier Santini, a former player and municipal gardener for seven years, understands perfectly the requirements of a good playing surface. He told the Aveyron newspaper: "Before every training session, I cross my fingers that no one gets injured." This daily worry stems from the degraded state of the pitches at the Vabre complex, where the professional squad trains regularly.
The situation became so concerning that a decision was made last Thursday. Club officials scheduled a complete overhaul of the lower part of the training ground. This work will begin on Monday, September 14th and is expected to last three days. During this period, the team will use the small upper field and could also train at the Trauc venue or on synthetic turf if necessary.
How will the club manage during the renovation work?
Training session organization will have to adapt for at least a full week. Santini noted that switching to synthetic turf would change all the players' support points and wouldn't be the same football. This solution remains a last resort the technical staff hopes to limit.
The physical trainer is optimistic about the outcome. He believes the pitches should return to very good condition within three weeks to a month after the work.
